Accessibility

JC Patissier wants everyone to be able to use this website and to be welcome in our café. This page sets out what we have done, what we know is imperfect, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

The standard we build to

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the international benchmark referenced by Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and its Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation. We build to that standard because it is the right way to build a website, independent of which organisations the regulation obliges.

What we have done

• A "Skip to content" link is the first thing keyboard users reach, so the navigation can be bypassed.
• Every interactive element can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and keeps a clearly visible focus outline. Focus indicators are never removed.
• The page respects your system's reduced motion setting. Turn it on and the scroll animations, the parallax and the automatically advancing photo carousel all stop.
• Text is checked for contrast against its background, including over photography, where a lighter gold is used specifically because the standard brand gold does not pass at that size.
• Photographs carry text descriptions; purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers rather than announced as noise.
• Our name is set in a script typeface and shipped as artwork, so it is published with a text alternative that reads as "JC Patissier" rather than being skipped.
• Headings, landmarks and lists use real HTML structure, so the page can be navigated by heading or region.
• The content is readable and the layout holds together with JavaScript unavailable, and at high zoom levels on a phone.

Known limitations

• The map in the Visit section is supplied by Google, and we do not control its markup or keyboard behaviour. Our street address, phone number and opening hours are all written out as text next to it, so no information exists only inside the map.
• Our menu photography shows the pastries but cannot convey taste, texture or ingredients. If you need to know what is in something — including for an allergy — please ask us and we will tell you.

Allergies and dietary needs

Descriptions on this site are not a complete ingredient list, and our kitchen handles nuts, dairy, eggs, wheat and other common allergens. Please speak to us in person or by phone about any allergy or dietary requirement before ordering, and we will tell you what we can and cannot safely serve.

Information in another format

If anything on this site is difficult for you to access, we will provide it in another format on request — read to you over the phone, emailed as plain text, or printed in large type. There is no charge for this.
